This award-winning interactive artwork by artist Faisal Anwar asks audiences to
reflect on what the word 'home' means to them in an age of migration, climate change and global
uncertainty. Participants are invited to reflect on their sense of belonging by photographing either an
object they cherish, a familiar place, a person who anchors them, or even a fleeting moment that evokes
comfort, memory, or identity, which represents the notion of home. These images will be dynamically woven
into a large-scale projection of photographs in motion, continuously evolving over the 12-hour duration of
Nuit Blanche 2025. Drawing from real-time and archived submissions, as well as open-source image bank
data, the artist investigates how we root ourselves in a time of constant flux, and how our individual and
collective sense of identity, memories and belonging are shaped. Home can be a place of comfort, security
or a site of displacement; ultimately, it’s a concept shaped by individual experiences and
interpretations.
This project is sponsored by CityPlace and Fort York BIA.
You are invited to become a part of a living archive of what home means to us. Share one or more photos or text of anything that feels like 'home' to you and submit here. Watch your image become part of this collectively created work during Nuit Blanche 2025, venue to be confirmed.
